In Austria, the master craftsman qualification and an academic bachelor’s degree are recognised at the same qualification level. Another member of our team has now earned his “master”: We congratulate Lucas Bernhard from Wangen, Germany.

With his examination piece “hide&seek” – a versatile storage cabinet incorporating a small safe – Lucas set himself a particularly high standard. The various openings can be operated from all four sides, yet their mechanisms are not immediately apparent, inviting the user to explore and discover them. The geometric division of the outer surfaces is inspired by Mondrian and follows the principles of the golden ratio.

The black finish on the exterior is achieved by charring the wood with an open flame. Oil is then burned into the surface, sealing the wood and enhancing its visual depth. This old, traditional technique was taught to Lucas by master carpenter Wolfgang Lässer.
